08/19/11 AAP: NZ SAS soldier among Kabul dead: report A New Zealand special forces soldier was among nine people killed in a Taliban attack on Britain's cultural centre in Kabul, a newspaper report said early on Saturday, quoting a military spokesman. A New Zealand Defence Force spokesman confirmed that one of the nation's Special Air Service (SAS) soldiers had died during Friday's attack on the British Council, according to the New Zealand Herald.

08/19/11 Bloomberg: Taliban Kill 8 in Attack on British Cultural Center in Kabul Taliban guerrillas attacked a British cultural center in Kabul, killing at least eight people, as Afghans marked their country’s full independence from Britain. Two early morning bomb explosions jolted Kabul and raised a column of black smoke from the compound of the British Council, a U.K. government-backed cultural and educational organization. The attack was the deadliest in Kabul since Taliban guerrillas killed 12 people in a five-hour commando assault on the Hotel Intercontinental on June 29.

08/18/11 VOA: Roadside Bomb Kills At Least 20 in Western Afghanistan Afghan officials say at least 20 passengers in a minibus were killed after their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in the western province of Herat early Thursday. Officials say women and children are among the victims. The attack wounded at least 12 other civilians.

08/17/11 AP: Gunman kill Afghan woman working for government A woman who works for the Afghan government in the turbulent south was gunned down outside of her home early Tuesday, officials and family members said. Rabia Sadat was getting into a car to go to her office in Kandahar city Tuesday morning when a man drove up on a motorcycle and shot her twice and the vehicle driver once, said her father, Sayed Hussein Sadat.
